Details of Architecture:Photographs of Urban Artifacts by Ellen Fisch (2008-10-03 - 2008-10-31)
The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum presents "Details of Architecture: Photographs of Urban Artifacts by Ellen Fisch"
from Friday, October 3 continuing through Friday, October 31, 2008. Ellen Fisch is an artist in many media and subjects, but she has always had a special passion for the details of architecture created in various materials on building facades. Since studying photography at Brooklyn College, she has dedicated herself to capturing these often-unnoticed details--flowers, gargoyles, arabesques, and interlocking bands--that decorate public and private structures, preserving a visual record of peripheral elements that provide insight into the architectural aesthetics of their period. The motifs that she has preserved with her lens include ornamental details influenced by the art and cultures of Africa, Asia, and Europe as well as the United States, celebrating a craftsmanship that makes, as the artist has noted, even the most modest establishment a structure of beauty. Her work both satisfies the eye and records an important part of New York Citys architectural heritage. Ellen Fisch has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since 2004.
